Thanksgiving List.
Thanksgiving is not only one of my favorite holidays because of the traditions and time spent with family and friends, but it is also the time of the year when Sandler reveals all the things for which he is thankful. I always eagerly anticipate the hilarious and honest list, hoping I make it somewhere in the top ten, and this year’s checklist did not disappoint. In honor of the holiday, this blog is Sandler’s actual Thanksgiving list:
1) The Curb Cowboys (complete with a list of every single patron)
2) Ben (his skate coach and mentor)
3) My skateboard
4) Landing my boneless 360
5) My legs and feet that help me land all my “twicks”
6) Bootsie… sometimes (his sister)
7) Baby Jesus’ birthday
8) The bowl (that he spends every waking hour skating)
9) Root beer and Dr. Pepper
10) Tabby (his good friend)
11) Chucky (yes, the scary doll)
12) My skateboard “fwiends” (and he named about a hundred of them)
13) All of my girlfriends (no comment)
14) God and the people we know who had to go live with him
15) Vert ramps
16) Nice people like Mrs. Nye and her kid who skates so good
17) Of course you, Mommy (yes, I made #17)
18) My teacher—she’s really kind
19) Hell… so Gramma Amy has a warm place to live since she’s dead
20) Tacos on Tuesday and every day that’s not Tuesday
21) Douglas, even though he’s home alone (he means homeless, not home alone)
22) Brandy and Derek because they are awesome and wear black like me
23) Candy, beautiful women, and Hot Cheetos (yes, he put those three things together)
24) Poppy—even though he’s grumpy and doesn’t like kids much (that’s his grandfather)
25) Chocolate milk
26) Being alive, happy and skateboarding every day
27) Skateboarding all over the world (even though he has only ever skated in CA)
28) Dick Churches (a restaurant he’s never actually eaten at, but drives by every day)
29) Trader Joe’s because my best “fwiends” work there
30) Christmas—because it’s happening the day after Thanksgiving (we are still working on the concept of the calendar)
Believe it or not his list continues, but I ran out of time and paper. I keep thinking I am going to have to pass on writing a future acceptance speech for him. He is very thorough and does not want to miss anyone or anything special to him. Though his list had me in tears of laughter, it still pulled at my heart strings. Sandler is genuinely thankful for each and every person who has touched his life. He is also beyond grateful for skateboarding and the family and meaning it has provided him.
Thank you all—Happy Thanksgiving & Happy Skateboarding.
